How do you review websites for inclusion in your listings?

Our listings are made up of websites that have been suggested to us and we use a review system to help determine the sites we will list.

We are quite strict about the format of the site title, description, and chosen category because we do not have the time available to edit incorrect or poor quality suggestions. Where it is obvious that our advice and guidelines have been ignored, we will decline a listing immediately without a review.

Our review process generally works as follows:

  • Check the format of the site suggestion
  • We check the Title and Description to see if they are in line with our preferred formats. If not, we decline a listing without review.

  • Check the category the site has been suggested to
  • Using the information from the title and description, we look at the category the site has been suggested to.

If the category is wildly incorrect then we will decline a listing.

If there is a more suitable category, or the category has been further developed since the site was suggested, we will change it to what we feel is a more appropriate category.

If no suitable category is available we will create a new one.

  • Review website and confirm URL
  • Once we are satisfied with the general details of the site suggestion, we look at the website itself. We will generally decline a listing where we find that:

    • the site is not available, has changed focus, or is under construction
    • the content of the site is not original, duplicates existing information, or acts as part of an affiliate program or doorway system
    • the site is made up mainly of third party links (excluding directories)
    • the site has a large degree of advertising compared to actual content
    • the site is not available in English language format
    • the site contains an excessive number of affiliate program links (excluding affiliate directories)
    • the site acts as a doorway to another domain and has no original content of its own
    • the site is obviously poorly maintained

We assess the general quality of the site and providing there is sufficient content and it is presented in a clear, usable manner, we will accept the site for a listing.

  • Listing approval
  • When we approve a suggested site for a listing, our software automatically sends out an email to confirm the details. The listing itself is created when we next rebuild the directory, so there is often a short delay between notification and actual activation of a new listing.
